She admits she was more of a musician than an athlete in high school. Later, as Daree grew into her life as a wife, mom, and onsite computer service expert, there were rogue days when thoughts of becoming a runner seemed do-able.
Or not.
Early exuberance would end in ouch, ouch, ouch, sore muscles and abandoned intentions.
And then one day a number of years ago, Daree realized she needed to do something to deal with her high stress. Something real and hard and physical. Maybe that running thing was worth another attempt?
She started slow. Run a little, walk a little. Eventually it was walk a little, run more. Once she completed a 5K, she went on to a 10K. Then, what the heck? How about a marathon? Done.
When I asked Daree to be my December Ambush model, she mentioned that she is now training for an Ironman event in 2017. Yep. Running, swimming, and biking her butt off. “Why?†I asked. “Still stressed?â€
“Nah,†she replied. “Now it is about the challenge. People say I’m crazy. That’s okay. I’m doing this for me.â€
And there you go. Inspirational, accomplished, feisty, and smart. Daree Selby, my Iron Woman ambush model. Â Baby she was born to run!
