The Dance

June 13, 2011 By Gail

Garth Brook’s song, The Dance, has long been a measure of meaning in my life. When I’m wondering if a failure or heartbreak was worth the pain, I think about his words and find perspective.
“And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I’d have had to miss the dance.”

This past weekend my husband and I attended a Blues Festival in downtown Minneapolis. The people watching was fabulous. There are those who look like they’ve just left a boardroom meeting, and those who are in more, um, creative dress. Purple hats? Got ‘em. Purple hair? Sure. Reto-hippie-“I’ve gotta be me” styles? By the dozens. The “what are they wearing?” group…too many too count.
The tandem part of personal expression comes in the form of dance. There are wigglers, toe-tappers, shoulder thrusters, hip-checkers, head-bobbers, and full on body contortions. Some bodies sync to the music beat, while others are listening to rhythms of their own making. It’s delightful to watch, and infectious to be around.
While we were sipping our beer and enjoying the show, a man, aided by a cane, emerged from the crowd. His neck and limbs were twisted in different directions, and forward movement came with jerky, unstable, effort. He stopped on a landing slightly above the dance area and began to sway as best he could. The look on his face was transformed by the driving beat; almost, almost, as if he were no longer caged in his physical body. After a few minutes an older lady stood from the seated onlookers and walked over to him. She looked him in the eyes, and then wordlessly began to dance with him. They finished two dances before she drifted away. I felt like we had been invited into his private fantasy for a few precious moments, and it was a thing of beauty. Given his condition, I bet the lousy days outnumber the good ones. He could have stayed home and let the world drift by, but he didn’t. He would have missed the dance.

Unquestionably believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason appeared to be on the web the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people consider worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

      Hi!
I knew I wanted a retro-look and feel since I was using photos of my family. I did some mock-ups of my ideas and took them to Lauren my webdesigner. She messed with them and used her creativity too. Between us AgingSchmaging’s layout was born.
Thanks for the kind words and visit,

Howdy would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using? I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a hard time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique. P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!

Hi and thanks for visiting. I’m on WordPress, but my webdesigner and I worked together to create the look I had in mind. Since I’m not a techie I had the ideas, and Lauren had the brains to make them work in this format. I’d highly recommend a webdesigner if you want to put your unique fingerprint on your blog. Good luck and have fun.
