Mention the phrase, “computer problems” and I tremble. I fumble at technology like a visit to the backseat in high school. (Friends told me about it. It’s not like I’d do such a thing.) Recently my computer was losing internet service on a regular basis and it was getting more than irritating. I appealed to my husband who then spent hours on the phone talking to tech savvy folks. The internet returned for almost a full day. My husband took one for the team a second, and then third, time. Days apart, but more hours spent on the phone learning questionable computer terms and pushing buttons he didn’t know had a purpose. His bravery earned him extra helpings of my love. After the internet finally seemed to stabilize, I realized my wireless printer wouldn’t work.
“Honey…,” I started. My voice dripped with perfumed seduction, and my eyes flicked over his biceps and down to his phone fingers. “No,” he hissed, “You call this time. I’ll be there listening if you need help, but you need to learn too.” Dang it! Mustering my resolve, I called and spoke to not one, but two, different tech advisors. I’m sure I drove them crazy with my slow uptake on what I was to do, when I was to do it, and how often I repeated my favorite question… “I’m supposed to do what now?” But when I hung up the phone my printer worked. I felt like I had climbed Everest. In high heels. Backwards. Oh yeah. It was the best part of my day.
