I juggled my purse, my laptop, and a disposable pan filled with my secret-recipe chocolate chip cookies all while praying I wouldn’t do a face-plant as I entered the car dealership.
Ryan, my knowledgeable Audi service guy, greeted me with a wave and a smile. As I slid the pan over the counter he tilted his head. “You didn’t have to do that!â€
I shrugged. Yeah, I kinda feel I do have to do that. He does an amazing job getting me in for oil changes and other service as needed on my car, and I wanted to show my thanks.
I found a place in the lounge to hunker down and work on my laptop. A short while later I heard another employee thank Ryan for the amazingly good cookies. Ryan pointed at me. “Say it to her. She brought them in.†The fellow came over to me licking chocolate off his fingers.
“Oh my gosh! Those cookies are so good. I was having a lousy day until I had one and now everything has turned around.†He grinned, and I grinned back.
“I’m glad you like them,†I said. It was the polite and modest thing to say, but inside I was doing happy cartwheels. It is a little thing to bake cookies, but to “turn someone’s day around†is something else entirely. A grateful stranger? The best part of my day.
