“I’m what is known as perimenopausal. “Peri”, some of you may know, is a Latin prefix meaning ‘SHUT YOUR FLIPPIN’ PIE HOLE”.”

Questions. As peri-menopause, or later, menopause, comes upon us questions arise. Where did my memory go? Why am I feeling like I want to bite my husband’s/partner’s/friend’s head off? What is the difference between a hot flash and a hot flush? Am I getting old? Those are great questions, but they are tough to answer. Why?
Because a simple question, something like, “How do I stop my horrible menopausal symptoms?” comes with about a bajillion possible suggestions.
–What does “horrible” mean to you?
–What are your expectations about menopause?
–Who are your role models for this transition?
–Do you view menopause as an ending or a beginning?
–Do you believe this is a normal, natural, change of life, or a dreaded punishment of sorts?
–How far are you willing to go to learn about your body, its functions, and your options for caring for yourself going forward?
I get it. As our bodies change the newness of how we feel, think, and look is confusing. Our identities become as fuzzy as our upper lip hair. We want to know how other women are living through menopause with purpose and style.
If lucky, we have trusted relatives, friends, and caregivers who can answer those delicate niggly questions. We NEED those people we are willing to listen. People who are willing to hear. People who are tuned to us as individuals, and respond accordingly.
Who do you trust with your “change” questions and stories? I’d love to hear what is working for you. And, if you need someone to listen, I’m here.
