In our backyard sits a garden bench my husband made. It is simple in design, and I love it. Our dog Hunter used to see me sit on the bench and then jump up next to me and just…well, be with me. Hunter passed away two days before Christmas, and we were shattered. With any ragged cut the healing process has been slow.
Today I went out to the bench and sat, missing him. On the ground I noticed a cement paver I had made some years ago as a gift for my husband. Hunter had place his paw prints in the wet cement as a forever love-you gesture. I traced the imprint with my finger and cried. Then our new puppy, Booker, came running when he saw me. He jumped up next to me and sat for a little while. It was bittersweet, and it was the best part of my day.
