My spiffy Audi TT is in the shop today. Some weird electrical disruptions were causing my baby to malfunction in humorous and vexing ways.
It was getting to the point that I’d do a happy dance if the trunk opened on command. Note to self: standing in the grocery store parking lot with four bags of food makes the trunk-opening option a good one.
It’s amazing what we take for granted in our American lifestyle until it is gone.
A few days ago my husband was kindly going to fill my gas tank, but like the trunk, getting the gas cap to open was a bit of a roulette game. Gas, at this moment in time, is one of those pesky requirements of driving a car, so into the shop my TT went.
Not having a car is surprisingly fun… for a day. I now have a ready made excuse not to go into town to work out, not to run errands, and not to waste a good chunk of my day doing “stuff” rather than working on my writing. As I sit here punching keys, Pudgy is fast asleep near my desk, the sun is filtering through the gossamer film of a curtain, and my heart feels at peace.
No wheels for a day or maybe two? It is the best part of my day.
