The woman was can’t-take-my-eyes-off-her gorgeous. Dressed impeccably in a suit, long pearls, and a beret-style hat, she owned the television studio. Her hair—which she self-styles I learned—was neatly and fashionably braided. Who was she, and how could I copy her confidence? The camera man panned her up and down as the narrator promised more details after the commercial. To my delight, instead of standing stiffly frozen in front of the camera, the mystery woman began to sway seductively to music only she could hear. Oh, by the way…did I mention she is nearly eighty years old?
A big part of why I do this website is to bolster and promote women and aging. Bringing newsy bits of information and thoughts from my midlife lens is meant to get others thinking, acting, and believing that this is a period of intensely rewarding growth instead of decline.
