I call it woman-bashing, but I’m in the minority. Every other Monday my husband goes to a Bible study session fifty miles away before going to work. Too often he’ll come bouncing through the door at night and want to read me a few verses that he found “interesting.” Usually it has something to do with a woman being subservient to her husband. I’ve heard of the subservient concept but don’t understand how it applies to me. As he closes the Bible and looks expectantly at me, he usually erupts with laughter as I give him the look. You know, THE look. The “have your fantasies but don’t even try to go there with me” look. The “if I was a cat I’d hiss and scratch your face” look. The “I see your lips moving but nothing meaningful seems to be coming out” look. The “your nether regions are within kicking distance” look. That look. So today, instead of reading to me he shared a story about one of the other guys that comes to the Bible study. This fellow has had numerous skin cancer treatments on his face and scalp. Some have been so invasive that they have had to perform skin-grafts. Usually the doctors take skin from his stomach to provide the graft material, but he’s not happy about it. “I keep asking them to take skin from my butt. That way, when my mother-in-law kisses the top of my head she’ll finally be kissing my A_ _ !” Okay, that’s funny. But I’m sticking with the women-bashing theory. Don’t tell my husband, but it was the best part of my day.
